Dare to Compare: 2017 Ford F-150 | Sauk City, WI

New F-150          Used F-150

If you’re in the market for a full-size truck, you’re probably trying to decide between the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500, and the Chevy Silverado 1500. Each of these trucks has made a name for itself over the years, but when it comes down to it, which is better?

The 2017 Ram 1500 doesn’t bring much in the way of updates to the table. The Ram 1500 offers solid fuel economy, but its towing capacity is lower than the others. The 2017 Ford F-150, for instance, can reach a maximum of 12,200 pounds with its new 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine, versus the Ram’s max of 9,480.

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 falls behind, too, and that’s in part due to its steel body. The Ford F-150 is now designed with an innovative aluminum alloy body and high-strength steel frame to make it lighter yet stronger. This also means that the 2017 Ford F-150 get quicker acceleration and better performance.

From the inside, the Ford F-150 is just as appealing. While the Silverado 1500 is a strong work truck, it offers a bumpy ride making it less functional for other uses. The Ford F-150 has a comfortable interior with plenty of legroom, an area where the Ram 1500 is lacking. Plus, the 2017 Ford F-150 gets Ford’s latest tech like the new SYNC 3 infotainment system which is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.
